Mi Casa Su Casa

Like a magical mix of Joshua Tree and the Hawaiian islands, Puerto Penasco Mexico is where a sunny, cactus- and palm tree-filled paradise meets the turquoise Sea of Cortez. There's something so special about spending a vacation along sea shores that feature astounding ocean horizon views and white sandy beaches. It's serene tranquility away from day-to-day hectic routine.

On our recent south-of-the-border retreat we dinned oceanfront, imbibed with friends, skipped through a tide pool, enjoyed the sunset over the sea—relaxed and rejuvenated. Now that I am home Mexico and its beautiful coastline still lingers in my soul.

However, recreating Mexico's atmosphere into our own homes or rental properties to feel as if we were still vacationing can be challenging. Strictly speaking in terms of interior design, Mexican style is very rich and full of tiny details that are easy to recognize but difficult to reproduce. Nonetheless, are a great vibe & look for this market.

Vacation rentals like Airbnb should offer home-like experiences and design that travelers crave. The most popular rentals should have all the comforts of home, only better. If you’re an Airbnb host looking for ideas to elevate your guest experience, Danielle Jacques Designs has your Airbnb decorating ideas here.

Mexican homes are characterized by the warm and welcoming ambiance and intricate interior décor elements. In order to be able to capture the essence of this culture in your vacation home, you must first get a clear idea of what really defines the style.

The Colors

If you want your rental property to be serene and tranquil, then don’t count on this being the right style for you. The Mexican color palette includes rich tones and vibrant shades of both warm and cold colors. Red, orange, blue and green are traditional colors you can expect to find in Mexican-style homes and they’re almost always all combined through patterns. However, if you hire my design firm don't be alarmed when we produce a modern spin on traditional Mexican flare. Incorporating black and white, maybe even a pop of royal blue would be very on point for us! We particularily love this blue hexagon flooring with black and white stripes!

Rich Handcrafted Textiles

This style is a rich source of woven and embroidered textiles which you can use in your rental home in the form of colored blankets, decorative pillows and bold area rugs. Their unique hand crafted style adds warmth to any space, making your vacation home feel that much more inviting.

Tropical Plants

Although using tropical plants in your interior design is not necessarily a feature pertaining to this particular style, it can be the element that defines your vacation home and brings it closer to what makes a Mexican home feel complete. The vibrant, fresh colors and the connection to nature are just two of the defining characteristics.

Wall Decor

Traditional wall décor options in typical Mexican homes blend a variety of elements such as mirrors with ornate frames, decorative plates displayed as a gallery, hats, paintings showcasing themed images, etc. Even textiles can be displayed on walls. The story and concept behind the item you wish to display on your Airbnb home’s walls is also important so choose carefully.

Artifacts

A great way to capture the essence of Mexican interior design is by using artifacts. Display them on walls, on shelves, tables or wherever you think they’d look best. They can serve as focal point but can also just as easily blend in if the décor is well-balanced. Again air on the side of modern and unexpected verses literal translation. The juxtaposition of taking two objects, themes, or materials and combining them or placing them together to create a striking contrast is very important in creating a wow factor!

Make It Instagrammable

Incorporate unique items into your interior that gives the room an Instagrammable focus point! Think about specific corners where you can achieve these fun ideas. Some ideas include a large wall-mounted stags head, a floor-standing palm frond lamp, or a shelving unit laced with handmade ceramics.
